The anticipation around the recent awards show has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team could be crafting a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously permissive, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in diverse methods, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
